What is Microsoft BI?Power BI is considered “business intelligence” software where the developer captures numerous data elements relevant to the needs of the user(s). Data sources can be in a variety of formats that are maintained by numerous enterprises. Power BI has a significant number of built-in import formats that provides the flexibility to load data from a host of data sources.

How often is the app updated?Data used in the applications is updated automatically by the developer when new information becomes available. This could be monthly, quarterly, or annually depending on the application. Applications are available 24/7. Applications include both current and historical data.

How is the information verified for accuracy?Each application contains a specific source of information. When the data is loaded in the application, summarizations of the data are compared to published data to verify the results are the same.

When will more apps be developed/added?Additional apps are planned for rollout later in 2021.

Can multiple users share an account?At this time, each account has a maximum of one user available.

Where can I go for help/assistance?While the app is easy to navigate via mouse click; no special skills required. Helpful hints are available for instruction. You may also contact us via website contact form with specific or technical questions.

How do I use the apps?With Montana’s legislative process in mind these resources are to be utilized presently and ongoingly. Inside this portal you will find the results of ongoing numeric research and analysis presented factually and concisely. The numeric data is summarized along with other information visually. Written material is included to inform and defuse frustrations. All information can be extracted from however you prefer. Filters summarize and/or group the data. For instance, if you are interested in total property values by year by class, you can filter the information to get summaries by statewide, counties, or cities simply by selecting the appropriate filters. De-selecting filters moves the summaries up a level.

Do I need additional software to open these apps?You do not need to purchase any software to use the applications, this program includes all necessary features.

PROPERTY TAX APP
The Montana property tax application is developed in Power BI to analyze and visually portray property tax information from the state of Montana. The data used in this application are extracted from the Montana Department of Revenue, Tax Policy, and Research. DOR spreadsheets have been combined to create a business intelligence model that enables you to produce a variety of reports, graphs, percentages, and visual displays with the click of a mouse. Tax info is from 2012 to the present.
STATE FINANCE APP
The Montana state financial application is developed in Power BI to analyze and visually portray state government financial information. The data used in this application are extracted from the Statewide Accounting, Budgeting, and Human Resource System (SABHRS). The SABHRS database tables have been consolidated to create a business intelligence model that enables the user to simply "click" to produce a variety of reports and visual displays. Fiscal year data from 2000 forward is available. University system data has been excluded.
LOCAL GOVERNMENT APP
The Montana local governemnt application is developed in Power BI to analyze and visually portray local economic information from the state of Montana. The data used in this application are extracted from a variety of state and federal resources. DOR spreadsheets have been combined to create a business intelligence model that enables you to produce a variety of reports, graphs, percentages, and visual displays with the click of a mouse. Economic info is from 2012 to the present.
